Walk In Gratitude
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” ~ Meister Eckhart
This has been an exceptionally difficult week. I feel as though I have been encountering negativity at almost every turn.
I am astonished at the number of people who complain and focus on all their troubles and woes and expect that life will change.
“What we focus on, we empower and enlarge. Good multiplies when focused upon. Negativity multiplies when focused upon. The choice is ours: Which do we want more of?” – Julia Cameron, Blessings
YOU get to decide. If you want to be happy, CHOOSE to walk in gratitude.
Walk In It…
I am thankful for all that I am.
I am wonderful just the way I am right now.
I am thankful that I can make a difference.
I know that helping others also strengthens me.
I am thankful for friends and family.
I am blessed in knowing I am not alone and that I have
people who care about me and share my life
People who have taught me love, patience, strength
and so much more
I am thankful for every new day and every new challenge.
Every new day is a chance to make a difference
to experience joy, and to grow .
I am thankful for the beauty that surrounds me every day.
For sunny skies and thunderstorms; majestic trees and wildflowers
I am in awe at the magic of nature in the world around us.
I am moved by kindness, smiles, hugs, and laughter
I am thankful for my tears, in both sorrow and joy.
Because they mean I care.
I am thankful for all the struggles I have endured and overcome.
Everything happens for a reason. I am proud that I am strong
and that I have grown in character and resilience.
I am thankful for all my mistakes.
I have learned many valuable lessons.
There is truly SO much more to be thankful for.
No matter how bad things seem, see the little things that matter, and be thankful.
I believe that when you can become thankful for all your troubles, they can become your blessings.
What are you thankful for?
Do you walk in gratitude?

Yesterday my mom and I watched the live stream of Brene Brown’s talk “Anatomy of Joy”. She spoke of daily practices of showing gratitude vs. feeling gratitude. Writing things down every day was one way to express gratitude. Dinner-time “I am grateful fors…” was another.
She said something else that for me was profound. In her research she asked a lot of people who’d been through extreme trauma , “What helps you?” She said that seeing and hearing others enjoying their lives and being grateful for what they had was the number one thing that helped them.
I’m grateful for so much. Where to begin?
I agree, good idea for another post…. showing gratitude. I don’t usually write this type of post because I prefer stories, but I have been bombarded by negative people lately and felt called to do it. Simply being grateful is cleansing, but showing gratitude is takes it even further. : )
You keep me calm! Thank you.
Lol… thanks QJ! I expect it is YOU who keeps you calm. Have a blissful day! xox
Good point! Have a resplendent day! (I love words)
I am thankful for an articulate writer like yourself reminding us to be thankful. 🙂 Tim-
Hi Slam… lol… you of all people don’t need a reminder to be thankful. You remind me, just by being you. : )
gratitude can provide a great mood relief
thank you for the post
You are quite right. It can shift your perspective all in an isntant. Thanks for taking the time to share. : )
Hi Shelley,
First off…know that I’m sending all sorts of good vibes your way – that positivity flows at every turn for you…
And it’s so true – what we focus upon multiplies (which I’m holding up for myself, too, that my focus remains positive and upbeat – thank you…)
What a wonderful wish, Lance. You are very kind. I am sending good vibes back your way (they like to bounce you know),. Wishing you much joy and happiness. Thank you for taking the time for me. I really appreciate it!
You said it–it amazes me too how people who only speak negativity are puzzled as to why their lives have not changed for the better. It is so very important to walk and live in gratitude every single day. It is the gratitude that opens the doors for new blessings.
I’m sending you lots of positive vibes and well wishes for an improved week. Remember that nothing formed against you has the power to prosper! 🙂
Thank you, Makeba. It is astonishing, isn’t it?! And when finally they open their eyes and truly see, only then can they move forward and make changes. Happiness is a choice no matter what life throws at you. Thank you for the well wishes. You are such a bright light. xox
i believe some people don’t believe they deserve to be happy thus find fault in everything and every thought.
I am thankful for you, my friend. This was a beautiful piece, Shelley – and it reminded me that I haven’t made time to write in my gratitude journal.
I believe things that occur in our lives, sometimes push us, just to remind us of all the things we have to be grateful for. Those little nudges doesn’t come necessarily in any specific type of form, but they require us to render gratitude for the gift of life we’ve been given.
This was one of those reminders for me. Thank you. <3
Very good blog! Do you have any recommendations for
aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little
lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so
many choices out there that I’m totally confused ..
Any tips? Many thanks!
